IT is haram to despair

The situation in Ethiopia is one of many sources of anguish that the Ummah is facing. The Khilafah has been absent close to 100 years; the disbelievers are emboldened enough to attack Rasulullah (saw) and the Quran.

Although the situation of the world may seem bleak, we should never despair. We must never give up hope in Allah (swt) as it is haram to despair. Allah (swt) explicitly warns the believers to guard against feelings of impatience, anger, and grief in the following two ayat:

''Messengers before you were rejected, so they showed patience and constancy towards their rejection and their persecution until our help reached them. And there is none that can alter the words (and decrees) of Allah.'' [TMQ 6:34]

''So wait with patience for the command of your Lord, and be not like the companion of the whale, when he cried out in agony '' [TMQ 68:48].

Despite the fact that the Prophet Muhammad (saw) is the best of all creation, he (saw) did not become victorious over the Quraish until the 8th year after Hijra– only two years before his death (saw).

During the period in Makkah, the sahabah experienced severe oppression. For example, the Quraish would torture Khabbab bin Al-Aratt (ra) by pulling his hair and twisting his neck, while making him lie on burning coal with a big rock on his chest. In this context, Khabbab (ra) narrated:

“We complained to Allah's Apostle (of the persecution inflicted on us by the infidels) while he was sitting in the shade of the Ka'ba, leaning over his Burd (i.e. covering sheet). We said to him, "Would you seek help for us? Would you pray to Allah for us?" He said, "Among the nations before you a (believing) man would be put in a ditch that was dug for him, and a saw would be put over his head and he would be cut into two pieces; yet that (torture) would not make him give up his religion. His body would be combed with iron combs that would remove his flesh from the bones and nerves, yet that would not make him abandon his religion. By Allah, this religion (i.e. Islam) will prevail till a traveler from Sana (in Yemen) to Hadrarmaut will fear none but Allah, or a wolf as regards his sheep, but you (people) are hasty.” [Bukhari]

Despite the hardship faced by the sahabah and Rasulullah (saw) faced, they needed to remain steadfast and patient. Consequently, we must ensure our actions are in-line with this idea. We must not surrender our foundation to the aggressors. We must work to re-establish our institute
